 Annual Fall Trek

Annual Fall Trek Sunday September 25th, 2016

Have you always wanted to travel over Buffalo Pass between Steamboat and Walden? Do you want to learn more about Howelsen Hill and the early day ski industry in Steamboat? If so, then join your friends for the 20th annual community fall trek. The trek is on Sunday, September 25th and will leave the Baggs Town Hall at 8 a.m. For those from the Platte Valley wishing to join the trek, the group will be at the intersection of WYO 70 and the county road to Hahns Peak at 8:20 a.m.

Drive by stops will be made at Columbine and Hahns Peak. The group will gather near Howelsen Hill, the famous ski jumping hill, in Steamboat where a guest speaker will explain the history of hill and the evolution of the ski industry in Steamboat.

Lunch will be near Buffalo Pass summit (elevation more than 10,000 feet).  After traversing the pass, which will require high profile vehicles but not 4-wheel drive, the trek will travel to Walden, where a stop will be made at the Antlers Hotel and Dining area for pie and drinks and a speaker will share the history of Walden.  The trek will disperse about 4 p.m. from Walden with participants returning to their homes via Rabbit Ears and Steamboat or Encampment and Battle Pass.

Treksters should bring their own lunch, water, chairs, cameras and make arrangements for high profile transportation.

There is no cost for the trek and reservations are not needed, but a call to 307-383-6861 to the Community Education Center expressing your interest helps with the planning of the event.

Sponsors of the trek are the LSR Museum and the LSRV Community Education Center.
